The Workshop on Development of  Materials  for Training on Teaching Methodology of Arabic  Language

Hosted by SEAMEO QITEP in Language (Centre), the Workshop on Development of  Materials  for Training on Teaching Methodology of Arabic  Language was held on 9-14 November 2015 in Jakarta. The main objective of the workshop was to develop the materials for training on Arabic language teaching methodology. It includes teaching methods, language learning models, media of language learning, evaluation of language skills, cross-cultural teaching, and implementation of learning plan.  

The fifteen participants of the workshop were from Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, University Muhammadiyah of Prof. Dr. Hamka, State University of Jakarta, IAIN Sultan Maulana Hasanudin, IAIN Syekh Nurjati, Indonesia University of Education (UPI), UIN Sunan Gunung Djati, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim, State University of Malang, UIN Walisongo, SMA Hamalatul Quran Al Falakiyah Bogor, and the Centre. They were Arabic language educators competent in teaching the language as well as writing in Arabic.

The five resource persons for the workshop were Prof. Dr. Nurul Murtadho from State University of Malang, Dr. Nuruddin from State University of Jakarta, Dr. Maman Abdurrahman from Indonesia University of Education, Ahmad Ghozi, M.A., M.Pd. from PPPPTK Bahasa Jakarta, and Dr. Felicia N. Utorodewo from SEAMEO QITEP in Language.

Prior to writing the materials, the resource persons guided the participants through the process of reviewing and discussing the training materials which had been used by the Centre since 2009.  Then, the resource persons explained the Centre new syllabus for training on teaching methodology of Arabic language which was developed on October 2014, as the reference in writing the materials. During the writing process, the participants received inputs and suggestions from the resource persons that they did by presenting each chapter completed.

In short, this workshop is conducted in line with the mission of Centre that is to improve the quality of language teachers in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, it also provides opportunities of capacity building for the participants as they gained knowledge and skills needed to effectively develop the materials for training on Arabic language teaching methodology.
