The 7th Governing Board Meeting

SEAMEO QITEP in Language held its 7th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) at Patra Jasa Bali Resort & Villas, Bali on 3-7 October 2016. On the opening ceremony, the Director of SEAMEO QITEP in Language, Dr Felicia Nuradi Utorodewo, welcomed old and new Governing Board Members and representatives of Ministries of Education. In the opening remarks, the Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, mentioned the progress of implementation of the SEAMEO 7 Priority Areas. He emphasised on the importance of strengthening networking and collaboration within and beyond SEA region to enhance the society especially in the field of education which has been completed so far.

The 7th GBM was attended by six GB Members and four representatives from Ministries of Education in SEAMEO Member Countries. The six Governing Board Members were Mr Tith Mab (Cambodia), Mr Ketkeo Phanthanivong (Lao PDR), Datuk Dr Amin Senin (Malaysia), Dr Yi Yi Maw (Union of Myanmar), Atty. Tonisito M. C. Umali, Esq (the Philippines), Assoc. Prof Dr Kingkarn Thepkanjana (Thailand). As for the representatives, they were Ms Hajah Suriani binti Haji Noor Hashim  (Brunei Darussalam), Prof Dr Dadang Sunendar (Indonesia), Mr Cedric Kai Wah Leong (Singapore), Tran Huu Phuc, PhD (Vietnam). The meeting also invited Dr Luizah F. Saidi (CDELTEP), Ms Ni Made Sukani (representative of Office of Education, Youth and Sport for Bali), Mr Syahril Khairul (Staff of Regional and Multilateral Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation of MOEC of Indonesia) and Ms Siti Hana binti Abdul Muiz (Education Officer Office of Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam) as observers.

The meeting was chaired by Atty. Tonisito M. C. Umali, Esq., GB Member for the Philippines and the GB Member for Cambodia led the reporting phase as Chief Rapporteur.

During the GBM, the Centre reported its programmes and activities compiled in twelve working papers, including an in-camera session of the Proposed Director for Fiscal Year 2017/2018 – 2019/2020.

On the last day, the GB Members visited two schools, namely 1) SMKN 3 Denpasar a vocational high school majoring in tourism, beauty, food and beverage, and dress making, and 2) SMAN 3 Denpasar. During the visit, the GB Members learned about the school programmes and school achievements as well as observed the school facilities, including the teaching and learning process. The visit, at least, showed the advancement of education in Indonesia at the secondary level.
