In Development: Syllabus for HOTS-based Learning Models

SEAMEO QITEP in Language (the Centre) organised Workshop on the Syllabus Development for HOTS-based Training on Language Teaching Methodology-Phase I on 2-6 April 2018 in PPPPTK Pendidikan Jasmani dan Bimbingan Konseling, Parung, Bogor. Thirteen language teachers of secondary school level as well as seven Centre staff participated in the workshop.

The workshop aimed to develop syllabus for HOTS-based training on language teaching methodology. The syllabus consist of structure programme, programme description, and outline of material description

To achieve the aim, Dr Bambang Indriyanto and Ms Esra Nelvi M. Siagian (SEAMEO QITEP in Language), Prof. Emi Emilia, Ph.D. (Pusat Pengembangan Strategi dan Diplomasi Kebahasaan, Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa, Jakarta), Dr. Sri Setyarini (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung), Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D.

(Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta), Dr. Tri Wiratno, M.A. (Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, Jawa Tengah) facilitated the participants throughout the workshop.

With their assistance, the participants comprehended the concept of HOTS, Project-based learning model, Discovery learning model, text-based learning model. The participants revised the syllabus for three learning model (project-based, text-based and discovery learning) in groups. The syllabus had been developed by the Centre staff prior to the workshop.

Upon presenting the draft of syllabus, they received input as well as feedback from the resource persons and fellow participants. The resource persons, provided input and feedback for the revision in accordance with their expertise. Following the activity, Prof Emi Emilia broadened the participants’ knowledge on the rules and strategies in developing a syllabus. By the end of the workshop, Prof Emi Emilia assisted the participants in revising the developed syllabus
