Training on HOTS-based Language Teaching Methodology in Pontianak

On 2018, SEAMEO QITEP in Language focuses on compiling the material about HOTS and disseminating the material in trainings and seminars. The teacher needs to deliver the material so that the students may achieve various skills to face the competition in 21st century. The material was arranged not only for one language, but also for other languages, such as Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese, German and Mandarin.

On 11-17 November 2018, the Centre conducted Training on Language Teaching Methodology based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The training was held parallelly in two cities, i.e, Jakarta and Pontianak. This training was aimed at to increase the competency of language teachers in the field of language teaching methodology. In Pontianak, the training was conducted in UPELKES Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The training was officially opened by the Representative of Education Office for West Kalimantan. Thirty teachers, with various language backgrounds such as Arabic, English, German, Indonesian, and Mandarin, participated in the training. The training emphasized on three learning models, namely project-based learning, discovery learning, and text-based learning.

There were six resource persons who ensured the participants’ comprehension on the three learning models. They were Dr. Bambang Indriyanto, Ms Esra Nelvi M. Siagian, Ms Limala Ratni Sri Kharismawati, Ms Itra Safitri, Ms Rizma Angga Puspita and Mr Reski Alam Gasalba. During the training, the resource persons guided the participants to develop lesson plans. In the last session of the training, the participants presented their lesson plans.

It was a fruitful training for the participants obtained not only the theory of HOTS but also its implementation practice. The training was closed by the Deputy Director of Administration, Dr. Sumharmoko.
