R. Dian Dia-an Muniroh

Plt. Direktur SEAMEO QITEP in Language

R. Dian Dia-an Muniroh joined SEAMEO QITEP in Language (SEAQIL) as Acting Director (Plt.) from October 2022 until now. In his role as Plt. Director, he serves as a high authority and main decision maker at SEAQIL with the main focus on managing and developing SEAQIL's sustainability to improve the quality of language teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia.

During his tenure as Plt. Director, he helped promote the Indonesian language through the BIPA program, developing strategic teaching methodologies for several foreign languages, such as Arabic, Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), Japanese, German and Mandarin; strengthening cross-cultural understanding in language teaching for the ASEAN Community; and promoting bilingual education using the mother tongue as the language of instruction.

Mrs. Dian earned a Bachelor's degree in English Education from the Indonesian University of Education (UPI) in 2004, a Master's degree in Linguistics from UPI in 2011, and a Doctoral degree in Forensic Linguistics from RMIT University in Australia in 2019.

Apart from her role as Executive Director of SEAQIL and as a lecturer in the Linguistic Studies Program at UPI, Mrs. Dian currently also serves as Director of the TELISIK Center (Forensic Linguistic Studies) at UPI.

As a dedicated researcher and writer, Bu Dian shows deep interest in various fields of linguistics, especially Forensic Linguistics, Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, and Investigative Interviewing. Since 2012, he has been actively conducting field research to collect linguistic data from various countries. His research findings have been widely disseminated through papers and articles in the field of linguistics, many of which have been presented at national and international conferences.

Some of his recent publications include "Addressing the Gap Between Principles and Practices in Police Interviewing in Indonesia" (2020) in the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology and "A Multidisciplinary Approach in Forensic Linguistics: Language Adaptation Steps for Cognitive Interviewing in the Police Context" (2021 ) in the Journal of Forensic Linguistics. His work has also been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology, Journal of Forensic Linguistics, JOALL (Journal of Applied Linguistics and Literature), Indonesian EFL Journal, Journal of Language and Literature Education, Atlantis Press, and Vernon Press .

Apart from writing and conducting research, he is often invited as a speaker at major conferences including the Webinar Tracing Language and Legal Literacy from the Perspective of Concepts and Community Reality, which was organized by the National Research and Innovation Agency on 29 July 2022; Colloquium Series II (online) Language and Law Enforcement, 3rd Sub-topic Forensic Investigation, Law Enforcement, and Methods in Forensic Linguistic Studies on June 25 2022; CTI Regional Seminar for the Asia-Pacific Region focusing on 'Capacity Building Strategies in Investigative Interviewing in Indonesia', Nusa Dua Bali Indonesia from 20 to 22 April 2022, and many other conferences. Apart from that, he is also a resource person or trainer in training activities in several big cities in Indonesia and abroad.
